On the Bargrennan to St John’s Town of Dalry section from east of Loch Trool at Glenhead (NX 433 799) the route takes you over the hill towards Trostan Burn then back onto the forestry track, during the 2007 season we received many comments that this route seems pointless and has very bad conditions under foot. We suggest following the cycle track south of the route on this stretch to avoid unnecessary climbing and wet conditions.

Also the start of this route section has changed which can be confusing if you are using old guide books, the map below shows the old route, the new route takes the line of the river south, then heading north again meeting back up with the route at Grid Ref NX 372 771. This has added approximately 3 miles to the route.

For walkers walking independently then please be aware of the long distance into Dalry (25.25 miles / 40 kms) If you need vehicle support this is available from Craigenbay (Grid Ref NX 543 789) reducing this section to 17.5 miles / 28 kms.

Should you require assistance or for further information please call our Dalry office on : 01644 430015 or 07747 691447
