Hello internet – I am writing this because I simply have no idea what to do about my crippling insecurity about wearing an ostomy pouch. Now I know what you’re thinking: what the heck is an ostomy pouch? Well, I actually don’t want to tell you. As soon as I tell you what an ostomy pouch is, you are going to be thinking of a million different things you can say to me to make fun of me and I just know it. If you have never heard of an ostomy or even a stoma, then I suggest that you simply log off the internet https://youtu.be/h8CtsPAaa5Yfor the day and spend some time outside. Today I am writing this post specifically to other people who also wear ostomy pouches. I have had a stoma for approximately 6 months now, and I thought that it would be easier to go out in public with my pouch hanging free by now; however, I simply cannot shake the fact that there are people constantly staring at my ostomy pouch and wondering what that thing is that’s hanging off my body. It fills me with huge shame and regret. I have indeed joined a local ostomy support group in my area, and I must say that that has been one of the most helpful things in my journey so far. Finding other people with ostomies like yourself is a great way to feel more comfortable in your own skin again and to find people who are struggling with the same things as you.
Since I have become so insecure about myself when it comes to wearing an ostomy pouch, I decided to start researching ways in which I can do more to hide my ostomy pouch when I go out in public or in various social situations. While most of my friends and family know about my ostomy pouch, not all of them do; consequently, I would like for it to stay that way so that I do not have to field a bunch of random and insensitive questions about my ostomy and my stoma. That is why I have been so diligent about finding new ways to hide my ostomy pouch.

I will say that all my hard research work has been beneficial to me, especially in reading ways that other people have gone about hiding their own ostomy pouches. One of the most common ways that I see people hide their ostomy pouches is through wearing smaller, more low profile ostomy pouches. This is a super easy way to hide your ostomy pouch under your clothes, even if they are some tighter fitting ones. A one-piece ostomy pouch (which is as the name describes) is a lot smaller and more form fitting than other ostomy pouches, so this is a really great option if you are someone like me who is just super embarrassed about wearing an ostomy pouch.

I would also like to point out that there are a bunch of different types of belts and wraps that are made specifically for people who wear ostomy pouches. What these belts and wraps do is keep the ostomy pouch closer to your body and do not allow it to swing and move around. This can just be an even better way to make sure that nobody notices that you are hiding a bag full of your own poop underneath your clothes.
