The Striding Arches
Accomodation for Striding Arches
The newly opened site at Cairnhead in the
rolling Southern Uplands, in Dumfries and Galloway
is a must see. It is now home to four magnificent Striding Arches by
international land artist Andy Goldsworthy. This world class site set in
a wild and beautiful forest, touching the Southern Upland Way and is free
and open to all.
The arches were devised for walkers of all
abilites. Short walks take you up to a single arch or along the poetry walk by
Dalwhat Water in Cairnhead Glen. experienced walkers in possession of a map and
compass can walk the rugged all day route from arch to arch across the hilltops
enjoying the breathtaking views and the interaction with the arches as they
rise and fall with you on your walk.
Walkers can also devise their own walks
anywhere in the 1347 hectare site, following the old drovers road, using the
newer forest tracks or going off piste! Look out for red deer, birds of prey and Atlantic Salmon,
enjoy the tranquility and the sound of the many burns running down the hills
into the Dalwhat Water or simply revel in the freedom inspired by the wide open
skies and breathtaking views from the hilltops. See www.stridingarches.com
