Beattock to

Walk No: 29

Start: Opposite Old Brig Inn

Nearest Town: Beattock

Notes: Warning: As the A701 crosses under the M74 and has two roundabouts to be crossed, walkers should take special care when crossing the slip-roads, as traffic coming down from the Motorway may be moving very rapidly. If walking from Beattock, it is safer to use the waymarked Southern Upland Way footbridge across the M74, passing south of Moffat or up into the town.

Route Description
Mainly road walking beside fields and rivers in some woodland. Start opposite the historic Old Brig Inn and Telford Restaurant, following the Southern Upland Way eastwards. There is a choice of three left turns along the public roads, to take you into and around Moffat - the longer is the most varied and more rewarding. From the town take the pavement beside the A701 road back to Beattock. This walk and Walk 30 can be conveniently started as an alternative at the free car park in the centre of the town square (High Street). See Moffat Town website for further information on Moffat.
