Walk No: Glenkens 3

Start: Clatteringshaws Visitor Centre. GR NX 551763

Finish: Clatteringshaws Visitor Centre. GR NX 551763

Notes: Benniguinea is by no means a high hill. With a summit at 387m it is dwarfed by many of its neighbours. However, by a pleasant coincidence of geography it is well placed to provide the walker with a splendid panorama. For those having walked around Clatteringshaws, a good proportion of the route can be identified. Merrick, the heighest of the Galloway hills dominates the distant NW horizon, whilst the route of the Queens Way can be followed for several miles twisting along the foreground. The route to the summit is straightforward. A track leads from opposite Clatteringshaws Visitor Centre, through a field and into the forest. The track loops upwards to the summit. A footpath, provided by Forest Enterprise, winds through the forest cutting out one of the loops. This is best used on the return.
