Glenkens Jubilee Walk

Start: Although the route can be started at any of the three villages, New Galloway, Balmaclellan or St. John’s Town of Dalry, this route assumes a starting point in New Galloway.

Notes: A circular walk initiated as part of the Queen’s Coronation Golden Jubilee celebrations in 2002.

• Terrain: Quiet undulating rural roads with some field paths.
• Toilets: New Galloway and Dalry.

• Refreshments: Available in New Galloway, Dalry and Balmaclellan.

Route Description
1. Take the A 762 signposted Ayr, passing Kells church just beyond the village.

2. At Coomb Bridge turn R.

3. Close by Earlstoun Power Station turn R through kissing gate onto Southern Upland Way. Follow river bank to suspension bridge.

4. Cross bridge following path into St. John’s Town of Dalry.

5. Cross A713 towards Bank of Scotland and continue along Main St. (A 702) passing through village, over hill and down to Trolane Bridge.

6. Turn R along B 7075 to “Kentucky” seat. Turn L upwards to Balmaclellan.

7. At shop turn L through village and up to War Memorial. Turn R downhill to A 713.

8. Turn R then immediate L over the River Ken bridge. The road leads into New Galloway.
