Route Description
1. Leave the car park, crossing the bridge over the Mill Burn and turn L to meet with the High Street. Cross straight over into West Port (the Old Edinburgh Rd.) climbing out of the village to open fields. At junction with A 712 detour a few meters L for fine views of Loch Ken. Cross over road and take the track signposted Achie & Airie. A short tracked route L near Airie leads to Gallows Hill where according to folklore hangings were carried out.

2. At Airie path veers L by wooden shed, crossing small field through gate. At next gate turn R and alongside wood to gate in corner. Cross open field to reach track leading to radio mast.

3. From radio mast follow track downhill through small forest plantation, passing ruined houses to reach Shiel Farm. Pass around the outskirts of the farm keeping the slurry tank on the L. The track leads to the A762.

4. Turn R and follow past Church into New Galloway. Turn R then L for the car park.
