Route Description
1. Follow the minor road S then bear R passing around the small hydro-power station. The road now degrades into a forest track and gradually gains height , ignore the R junction and continue to where the track forks.

2. Take the L fork continuing S, still gaining height to a point where the tree cover is thinner and the open slopes of Craigencolon will be seen on the R. Strike up onto the rugged top. Almost directly S will be seen the conical top of Black Craig. Descend onto the track below. Turn R and follow this a short distance until the open hill appears on the L. Strike up the grassy slopes onto the spur to reach the summit of Black Craig. With impressive views onto Loch Doon and across the Carrick Forest it is surprising that this hill is not visited more often.

3. Descend N back towards the track, then turn L and follow it as it sweeps down around a right hand loop. Ignore the track leading off L and continue down to the shore of Loch Doon. Walk N along the shore where another track will be found leading up into the forest. This track leads to the outward route and Drumjohn.
