Location Information

North West Castle opened its doors to guests in 1962. The first of five hotels now owned by the McMillan family, it has played an active part in the life of the town of Stranraer ever since. Renowned for the warmth of its welcome, guests return to the "Castle" as to an old friend.

North West Castle was built in 1820 on the shores of Loch Ryan, for Sir John Ross, the Arctic Explorer. He was born in 1777, and joined the Navy in 1786, where he rose to the rank of Captain.

The Lounge and Bar
The Residents Lounge commands views of the whole length of Loch Ryan, and in the original windows little apertures on hinges can still be found, through which a telescope could be inserted, giving a clear view of the shipping on the loch.

Bedrooms
All of the bedrooms and suites are attractively decorated. They are all ensuite and equipped to the highest standards, many with views over the harbour and loch beyond.

Five suites are available, these include the Penthouse Suite with balconies overlooking Loch Ryan, and the Honeymoon Suite with its four poster bed.

The indoor facilities include the curling rink a heated swimming pool with spa bath, saunas and multi-gym.

The large games room offers short carpet bowling, snooker, pool and table tennis.

Fishing, on sea, loch or river, sailing, shooting, horseriding, tennis and squash can all be arranged.
