Field paths, farm tracks and country roads. One fairly steep climb onto Legerwood Hill. Boots or wellingstons required in wet weather.
Refreshments: None, ample facilities in Lauder and Earlston.
Leave the car park and walk down to the crossroads. Cross the ladder stile next to the telephone box and follow the path up the left side of the field.
At the top of the field, turn right and walk down to the footbridge. Cross and turn left along the side of the ditch to the far end of the small wood. After crossing the ladder stile, turn right up the side of the field until a stile is reached leading onto a farm track. At the end of the track, turn right onto the minor road and continue to a T-junction. Turn right here, and then left into woodland. After crossing the stile, turn right and follow the track to another stile. Walk up the left side of the field and pass through a gate onto the hillside.
Continue uphill with the shelter-belt of spruce and larch on the left. At the top of the hill, turn right and walk downhill with the fence on your left. Cross the stile on the left and after a few metres turn right over a second stile and follow the fence on the right until a gate is reached. Go through the gate and follow the farm track downhill and to the right. Cross a stile and continue to the minor road. Cross the road with care into the field opposite, turn right and follow the field edge parallel to the road. Turn left uphill past a cottage to reach a stile. Then follow the track round to the right. Continue past cottages to the bridge, turn left and return to the start point.
