After
working for 19 years as a countryside ranger with Scottish Borders
Council (SBC), Mike has hung up his work boots and retired. When Mike
started with SBC in 1990 he was employed as a Path Warden on the SUW
and was responsible for the day to day maintenance of the Scottish
Borders section of the Way, later he was made a main grade ranger and
he continued to manage and promote the SUW and lead guided walks along
it.
Over the years Mike has put a great deal of time and effort into
upgrading the condition of the route by improving the path surface on
many sections, replacing fixtures and installing hunt gates to allow
access for cyclists and horse riders as well as walkers. Mike has also
been passionate about encouraging people to discover this fantastic
resource in the South of Scotland.Although
Mike has hung up his work boots, he certainly hasn’t hung up his
walking boots and as he lives close to the route at Innerleithen there
is still a chance that you may come across him whilst walking the Way. We wish Mike well in his retirement, which he thoroughly deserves. |
